Monodisperse nanocrystals or clusters have been widely used as catalysts for various chemical reactions.Previous research attentions have been mainly focused on designed synthesis of nanocrystals with different sizes and shapes to harvest the best catalytic performances. Here we demonstrate our efforts in promoting the catalytic efficiency of nanocrystals/clusters by tuning their chemical surroundings. This can be achieved by tuning their hydrophilic or hydrophobic surface properties or encapsulating them with novel structures like MOF.
