The causal relationship between inflammation and cancer has recently been widely accepted, though the molecular mechanisms are yet to be determined.Almost all human prostate specimens contain evidence of inflammation.Interleukin-17 (IL-17) is one of the proinflammatory cytokines found in prostate cancer.The receptors for IL-17 are IL-17RA and IL-17RC, both of which are expressed in prostate cancer.There are more than a dozen of different IL-17RC splicing isoforms expressed in prostate cancer.The full-length IL-17RC inhibits apoptosis of prostate cancer cells via blocking caspase-3 activation.Knocking down IL-17RC expression in prostate cancer cells causes apoptosis of the cancer cells.The expression of IL-17RC is increased in androgen-independent prostate cancer.
