It is well known that lanthanide ions have sharp and intense emission bands based on their f-f electronic transitions and a wide range of luminescent lifetimes,suitable for various applications.Unfortunately,lanthanide ions electronic transitions are forbidden by parity(Laporte) selection rules,leading to weak absorbance and low quantum yields.To circumvent this problem,this can be improved by forming complexes of the lanthanide ions with organic ligands that strongly absorb light and transfer the energy to the metal center(antenna effect).Herein,in order to gain a better control of the structural properties and the photophysical properties of the final complexes several groups have included hydroxyquinolate groups in polydentate ligand predisposed for the formation of tetranuclear structures,we have synthesized 2-substituted-8-hydroxyquinoline ligand containing two types of substituents-Cl and -OH to fabricate hydrogen and halogen bondings.
