Sialyltransferases are key enzymes responsible for the biosynthesis of sialic acid-containing structures in nature.They have been cloned from different sources and have been broadly applied in the enzymatic and chemoenzymatic synthesis of sialosides.Generally, bacterial sialyltransferases have better expression levels in E.coli systems and possess higher substrate promiscuities than their mammalian counterparts.
