China has experienced a warming trend in the last five decades, especially the northern part. This paper studies the changes of arid and humid areas in Inner Mongolia during 1998 - 2007based on the SPOT-NDVI and meteorological station observations.A Simple Method is applied to monitor the trend of arid and humid trend from station data into pixel.A 1-km Rainy season NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) and IM (defined by the proportion of precipitation and ET)is defined here from 1998 to 2007,aiming to calculate the drought conditions from stations to pixel by regression analysis of NDVI and IM.Regression analysis of NDVI and proportion of precipitation in evapotranspiration shows high-quantity correlation coefficient of 0.742.Our results illustrate that areas of wetness region in Inner Mongolia keeps on-going increasing trend in the past 30 years and the last decade is especially remarkable.Changes of total areas of wetter and drier region is 303468 and 153755 square kilometers from year 1998 to 2007,respectively.It is found that the middle section of Inner Mongolia gets drier while the eastern section gets wetter significantly in Inner Mongolia. It is interesting to further study the driving factors behind such changes including climate change and human activity.
