  Dense mixed ionic-electronic conducting hollow fibre membranes such as La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3-δ(LSCF)can be used for the oxygen separation from air.However,the oxygen permeation flux through these membranes is limited by surface-oxygen exchange kinetics.To improve this oxygen exchange,the membranes can be coated with an activation layer,which can be a porous layer of the membrane material itself to increase the surface area or a material layer with superior oxygen exchange properties such as La0.8Sr0.2CoO3-δ(LSC).
