Backgrounds:The most important pathological event in retinal degenerative diseases is the loss of retinal retinal ganglion cells (RGCs).Lots of studies demonstrate the dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) as self-renewing stem cells,which can differentiate into neuronal lineages as well as RGCs in the retina,and express retinal neuronal markers just like glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP),polysialic acid-neural cell adhesion molecule (PSA-NCAM),rhodopsin in different period.In animal models,the fate of the surviving cells were influenced by DPSCs transplanted into the brain differentiate into functional neurons or astrocytes.
