In this paper, the numerical solutions of transient groundwater flow in layered soil using the method of fundamental solutions(MFS)is presented. For solving transient groundwater problems, the MFS coupled with the method of particular solutions(MPS)with the use of the radial basis function was proposed. In addition, the domain decomposition method was adopted to solve groundwater flow in layered soil profiles where flux conservation and continuity of groundwater head at the interface between two consecutive layers were considered in the numerical model. The validity of the model is established for a number of test problems by comparing numerical results with the analytical solutions.Several application examples were also carried out.The results show that the proposed numerical method based on the MFS has been demonstrated as a promising mesh-free numerical tool to solve transient groundwater flow problems in layered soil.
