Being hypoosmotic to the surrounding seawaters, some marine fish eggs, such as those of Antarctic fishes, are in the danger of freezing death in a subzero temperature.Unlike the adult fish tissues that are protected by antifreeze proteins, the eggs and the hatching larvae contain far lower than adequate levels of antifreeze proteins for freezing avoidance.
