Nitrogen mustards are the earliest and perhaps most extensively studied of the DNA interstrand cross-linking agents.Nowadays they still are the front line therapies for the treatment of many types of human cancers in clinics and provide an area of extremely intense and progressive investigation. However, their applications are severely limited due to high systemic toxicity, narrow therapeutic index and drug resistance. Therefore, there is a strong need to develop new strategies to overcome these problems.
