The Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC) is a public-private partnership that was formed to place the 3D structures of proteins from human and human parasites into the public domain,without restriction on use.The SGC currently operates out of three laboratories at the Universities of Oxford and Toronto,and at Karolinska Institutet.To support its activities from,the SGC received a total of~USD$120M from GSK,Merck,Novartis,the Wellcome Trust,the KAW Foundation,the Swedish Foundation for Strategic research and the Canadian,Ontario and Swedish governments.Over the past 4 years,SGC scientists have been responsible for >25% and >80% respectively of the new human and Apicomplexa protein structures done worldwide,and 15% of the total structural information for humans in the Protein Data Bank.The structures (>750) all derive from the SGC Target List,which is a list of"prioritized" proteins prepared by the SGC funders.The SGC has also published over 150 peer-reviewed papers,trained and hosted dozens of students and fellows,and engaged in over 100 different collaborations.
