Head and neck cancer patients are suffering from dysphagia, malnutrition and alterations of swallowing and taste in nearly 100 %.Nearly 75% of them are already malnourished before starting their anticancer treatment.Thats why nutritional aspects are the most important part of supportive care for this group of cancer patients.The first part of our presentation will focus on diagnostic steps and procedures.Our research has shown high sensitivities of Nutritional Risk Score (NRS 2002) and Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) as standardized forms of anamnesis.Key points of these tools are the nutritional behavior and the loss of body weight during the last 3 or 6 month.The anamnestic tool should be supplemented by results of biochemical or biophysical measurements.
