The aim of the presentation is to review the notion of the heterogeneity of the obesity and the implications for clinical and research work.A body mass index of 30 kg/m2, which is an international reference to diagnose and treat human obesity, must be interpreted with caution since published data over the past decades showed that obesity is a complex condition.For example, for some individuals, obesity is not associated with common risk factors for heart diseases and type 2 diabetes, while others may display an obese metabolic profile despite being normal weight.
