Progesterone regulates many functions through the interaction with its nuclear receptor (PR) which presents two main isoforms:PR-A and PR-B with different function and regulation.Progesterone exerts different effects on a cell depending on the expression pattern ofPR isoforms.These receptors have been detected in human astrocytomas, the most common primary brain tumours that constitute a leading cause of cancer-related deaths, In our group we have studied PR isoforms expression both in biopsies from patients with astrocytomas (grade Ⅲ, and grade Ⅳ, the highest evolution grades) and in U373 and D54 human astrocytoma cell lines, respectively derived from tumours grades Ⅲ and Ⅳ.
