Synopsis For the photoionization of Ar5+, there are some significant discrepancies between the theoretical results using the Cowan code and absolute experimental measurements by Wang et al [Phys.Rev.A 75, 062712 (2007)].Relativistic R-matrix calculations are performed for the 3s-np photoionization of the ground state 2P1/2 and the metastable state 2P3/2.The present calculations are in better agreement with the experimental results with a resolution of 80 meV, and show a great improvement on their theoretical results. Two experimental unresolved transitions are distinguished in our calculations. Our results are also in better agreement with the measurements with the higher resolution of 20 meV.
