The synthesis of high-nuclearity pure lanthanide clusters continues to be a challenge because of the lanthanide ions have variable and high coordination numbers as well as poor directionality.1 Here, a novel tetrahedron-shaped tetranuclear lanthanide metal-organic framework,[NH2(CH2)2] [Yb4(L)2(μ3-O)4(CO2) (H2O)4]·0.5DMF·4H2O (1) (L=5,5-methylene-di-isophthalate) have been synthesized and studied by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, powder X-ray diffraction, IR spectra and TG.
