Objective Ginseng, has been used in China and other countries over 2 000 years, has multi-modulations on Central Nervous System,(CNS) as "adaptogen".It was showed Ginsenoside Rb 1 (Gs-Rb 1,25-hydroxy-ginsenoside-Rhl,40 mg/kg),one of main components isolated from ginseng, significantly decreased the free-movement-times of mice in our previous experiment. It intended in this experiment to investigate the effect of Gs-Rbl (ip) on electrocorticography (EcoG),learning and memory of rats, and to analyze the effective pattern of Gs-Rbl on the sleep process and the initial stage of awaking of rats. Methods (1) EcoG of sleep recording:Sixteen male rats (250-300 g) were randomly divided into 2 groups:Control for EcoG (CE) and Gs-Rb1 treated for EcoG group (GTE),8 rats in each group. Each rat was set the stainless steel screws on the cerebral cortex through the skull (Coordinate of Record point:A/P-0.8,M/L +3.0; Coordinate of reference point:A/P +2.7,M/L-3.0).The baseline EcoG including sleep-status and waking-status was recorded a week after the operation.GTE group rats were administrated (i.p.) Gs-Rbl at 40 mg/kg per day for 3 d from day 7 to day 9 after the electrodes were embedded.CE group rats were accordingly administrated (i.p.) with equal volume of normal solution (NS).
