A simple and cheap assessment of 22 highway concrete bridges was carried out in Uganda in 2011 to 2013.The aim of the study was to expose visible damages on bridge.Non-destructive techniques were used:visual inspection focused on identification of damage types; observation was used to identify environmental threats and photographs provided permanent record. To supplement visual inspection the presence of carbonation and chlorides was established. Results show that delamination and spalling were observed in 46.6%,poor surface-deck drainage,27.2%,and bank failure and erosion,27.3% of the study sites.Carbonation and chloride were not widespread. This justifies the importance of developing an efficient bridge inspection system.
