Background:The conserved motif 97RIRKVKV103 in the porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) capsid protein (Cap) was initially presumed to be a binding site for cell surface proteoglycans. As this motif later appeared to be localized on the inner surface of Cap,its role as a binding region was excluded.Because this motif is highly conserved among PCV2 strains,it probably plays an important role during replication. Therefore, the present study aims to clarify the function of this conserved motif on PCV2 replication.
