Objective: Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) has become a major cause of diabetes-related morbidity and mortality.Cardiac oxidative stress is associated with DCM, which is triggered by hyperglycemia.Increasing evidences have proved that hydrogen sulfide (H2S) fulfills a positive role in regulating diabetic myocardial injury.Autophagy, is initiated by the formation of autophagosomes which nonselectively sequester long-lived proteins and cytoplasmic organelles such as mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum and ribosomes. While overactivation of autophagy is incompatible with cell growth, this self-cannibalistic process may protect cells from various kinds of stress. In relation to its regulation, the AMP-dependent kinase (AMPK) and mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathways play important roles in the control of autophagy.
