The objective of this presentation is to review PTACs work which has resulted in reducing methane emissions, recovery, and use of methane as a valuable clean energy source in the oil and gas industry.PTAC has formed four networks which have been instrumental in reducing methane reduction or capture of fugitive methane for use in oil and gas fields:1) Technology for Emission Reduction and Eco-Efficiency (TEREE) 2) Resource Emission Management Technology Action Plan (REMTAP) 3) Alberta Upstream Petroleum Research Fund (AUPRF) 4) Clean Bitumen Technology Action Plan (CBTAP) These networks use collaborative open innovation model and are comprised of multi-stakeholders representing oil and gas producers, government organizations, regulatory bodies, research providers, service and supply companies, academia, etc. Many multi-stakeholders consortia have been launched to conduct applied research, engineering studies, and field pilot tests, deploy and commercialize advanced technologies and best practices related to detection, reduction, and usage of methane as a valuable energy source.Clearly the advantage of multi-stake holder consortia is significant financial and expertise leveraging which has resulted in cost effective higher quality work.
