  Microstructured material has attracted a lot of attentions due to its unique electromagnetic characteristics,while liquid crystal (LC) is a kind of material with excellent electro-optical (EO) tunability.Combining the two to accomplish the instantly control of light is meaningful.By means of photoaligment technique,we developed several methods to control the LC directors in micro domains.Depends on the localized polarization rotation,phase retardation and refractive index control of LCs on incident light under electric field,EO tunable LC devices could be realized.Several optical elements and devices such as optical switch,spacial light modulator and fork gratings have been demonstrated.This kind of tunable photonic devices exhibit the advantages of low cost,no moving parts and low power consumption.
