The mechanical properties of zigzag single-walled carbon nanotubes with S-W defects under axial tension were simulated by molecular dynamics method,the necking problem and failure problem during the stretching process were studied by comparing and analyzing the perfect carbon nanotubes.The difference in the number,position and distribution of S-W defects could affect the ultimate stress,ultimate strain and equivalent elastic modulus of carbon nanotubes,this could change the stiffness of carbon nanotubes and affect the loading capacity,and also could affect the shape change and failure of carbon nanotubes.
