Resistance to pod shattering is a target trait for global canola (Brassica napus) improvement.Previous studies in wheat, rice, maize and sorghum suggested that shattering genes were under parallel selection during domestication. It is currently unknown whether domestication selected for similar genes across multiple species including in B.napus to confer loss of seed shattering. We uncover the genetic basis of natural variation for shatter resistance in B.napus and show that several quantitative trait loci (QTLs) control resistance to shattering.
