The biomechanical study of Tai Chi started in Singapore Sports Council(SSC)in 2005.Collaborating with Chengdu Sports University(China),the video data for three-dimensional motion analysis was collected on spot of the competition of Tai Chi on China National Games.Firstly the study was focused on kinematic analysis for enhancing the performance of Singapore elite Tai Chi athletes, the kinematic data of local athletes was also captured in laboratory, compared with the data of Chinese elite athletes, and then the result of analysis and suggestions of improvement were fed back to Singapore national elite and coaches.Secondly the project of biomechanical modeling of knee was implemented for injury analysis as the increased risk of knee injury from the jumps such as Flying Front Rise Kick(FFRK)(Teng Kong Zheng Ti Tui in Chinese).Currently Singapore Sports Science Centre(SSSC)is engaging in research and development of the methodology and equipment for promoting Tai Chi in majority of ordinary people.Collaborating with China Institute of Sports Science and Institute of Computing, the sports biomechanical data, and the latest technology and hardware will be applied in helping ordinary people to learn and master Tai Chin. This presentation gives the full picture about the above research and development projects and shows them in detail.
