@@ The purpose of this study is to investigate induction of TOT states for monolingual speakers of English via definitions in correlation to auditory and visual stimuli, and whether one’s perception of one stimulus affects these states more than the other. In accordance with A. S. Brown’s partial activation model (1991), studies have shown how subjects may have an idea of a part of the target word when they are in TOT states e.g. the first letter/phoneme of a word and number of syllables. We are in agreement with the latter. We are curious as to how the partial activation model corresponds to visual and auditory stimuli, respectively. Hence, one of our goals in this study is to test whether or not auditory cues have more influence over TOT states than visual cues.
