Laser-based displays have been under active development over the past 50 years.With the recent developments in visible laser technology,laser-based displays are expected to be close to the consumer market very soon.Our laser-based display was inspired by the beam-scanning technology used in cathode ray tubes.With directly modulatable laser sources and scanning mirrors based on micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) technology,we are developing knowledge for high resolution laser display. In this presentation,I am going to first review different types of display technologies.Then I will talk about the development activities in SINANO related to high resolution laser display,which include 2-D MEMS scanning mirror,visible laser diodes,and optical components.The future of laser display will also be discussed.
