  Large surface combat ships play more important roles in the 21th century.For the long service lifetime and big machine power of the large surface combat ships, their ship hull form optimization design for the resistance reduction, including stern wedge appendage application for the resistance reduction, has great military and economic efficiency.Present paper conducted the investigation of the stern wedge optimization design for the resistance reduction to the large surface combat ship, employing the genetic algorithm incorporated with the new linear wave resistance numerical calculation method, with the numerical calculation analysis and model test validation carried out and several stern wedge schemes obtained.The comparison of the calculation results with the experimental results indicated that present method suitable to the stern wedge optimization design for the resistance reduction to the large surface combat ship with the quasi cruiser stern form, and the resistance result comparison of the hull form with the stern wedges with the prototype hull form indicated that the resistance reduction ratio from the stern wedge appendage application attained 5% in contrast to the prototype hull form.
