In recent years, magnesium diboride (MgB2) superconductor with a critical temperature of 39 K has been suggested for the development of next generation MRI applications, because it can provide the critical cost-effectiveness for a cryogenic part without the use of liquid helium unlike low temperature superconductor applications. To fully exploit MgB2 superconductor for MRI applications, superconducting joints enabling a persistent current mode operation of the MRI magnet are essential to achieve the generation of the high and extremely stable magnetic fields.
