The need to control variation in experiments using animals is well understood by researchers.In 1959 Russell and Burch the UFAW Scholars who developed the 3RS concept wroteif every single individual (of a species, say) were absolutely identical in all respects, very few animals will be needed for assay purposes.Standardisation helps improve reliability and replicability and reduce the number of animals needed.
