Diverse applications of ionic liquids in various fields of chemistry are enormously increasing, and these are attributable to their tunable characteristics.Regarded as green solvents, ILs can replace the use of volatile organic solvents in the preparation of monoliths.Due to their increased polarity, they can have more absorbing power for microwave energy than conventional organic solvents thus are better used in microwave-assisted polymerization.Monolithic columns are characterized by their porous channels.Controlling this porosity can influence monolith morphology. Therefore, a careful choice of pore-forming solvent mixture is critical as this affects the mass transfer resistance and the surface area of the produced polymer monoliths.A large surface area allows for improved analyte adsorption in chromatography hence, increased separation ability.
