Treatment of cancer has been dominated by the triad surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, three methods that become palliative when the tumors metastasize.Cancer cells are viewed as having acquired properties that define their behaviour in response to a regulating microenvironment: unlimited replication, angiogenesis, resistance to apoptosis, growth autonomy, insensitivity to growth inhibitors, and tissue invasion and metastasis. These intrisic properties of tumor cells steer great research efforts for obtaining control over tumor development.
