Researches on the deformation and failure mechanisms of the earth-rock aggregate are very significant in social and economic areas, because most landslides on the Earth consist of the earth-rock aggregate.The earth-rock aggregate is constituted by soil and rock, and its meso-structure is complex, so the earth-rock aggregate is a kind of typical heterogeneous materials.However, at present, the methods researching on behaviors of the earth-rock aggregate are the same as homogeneous soil, so it is impossible to reveal the deformation and failure mechanisms of the earth-rock aggregate on the meso-scale level.A very important means to study the deformation and failure mechanisms of the earth-rock aggregate is discrete element method in 3 dimensions.Firstly the typical irregular shape rocks in the earth-rock aggregate will be selected to CT scan, and get the 3D geometric grid data of them.
