Expansion joints and beatings are vital parts of the bridge equipment.Any longer interruption in traffic flow due to serious failure of the expansion joints and/or bearings means greater environmental loading as well as additional costs due to delays and detours.They are very vulnerable parts of the bridge structure and their repair or exchange has direct and great impact on the traffic mobility.The influence of the bearings failure on the traffic flow is smaller with regard to the expansion joints if they can be repairedc or replaced under traffic.Therefore it is very important that types of the expansion joints or bearings are carefully selected during the design stage and must be carefully manufactured and installed as well.After installation they must be subjected to strict inspection with respect to the type of the expansion joints and bearings.
