  Dimethylsulfide (DMS) is a volatile organic sulfur compound produced by biological activity in the surface ocean.Once ventilated in the atmosphere,DMS is oxidized and implicated in a potentially climate-stabilizing feedback loop (the "CLAW hypothesis").The production and emission of marine DMS is subject to complex physical,biogeochemical and ecological interactions.Although there has been much progress in modelling ocean DMS distributions and dynamics,much work remains to be done to build confidence in DMS ocean models.The focus on a model intercomparison project was first raised at the 2004 SOLAS Open Science Meeting.
