Objectives: Mandibular condylar hyperplasia(CH)is a rare disease which can cause unilateral or bilateral overdevelopment of the mandible.Despite the possibility of creating functional and esthetic problems,the clinical management of CH still mainly focuses on high condylectomy during active phase and orthognathic surgery after the cessation of growth.As a growth center of mandible,condylar injuries of growing patients may probably lead to the inhibition of mandibular growth.According to these fact,we suppose that surgically damage condyle may help stop the overgrowth of mandible of CH patients during early period.The aim of this study is to describe how condylar injuries affect mandibular growth on a dog model,and try to find some experimental evidence for a new approach to treat CH.
