Blue phases [1-2] are mesophases that appear typically in the temperature range between the chiral nematic (cholesteric) phase and the isotropic phase. However, temperature range of their existence was rather small.During the last few years, systems have been developed which exhibit blue phases stable within temperature intervals as large as 100℃.The most effective way is Polymer-stabilized treatment. However, there are remaining many challenges for practical application of BPLCDs.
