Stem cells offer great potential for the treatment of many diseases as well as for tissue and organ regeneration through stem cell therapy and tissue engineering.However to realize the promised potential of stem cells (adult, embryonic and in duced pluripotent stem cells), many technical challenges must be overcome and chemical engineers can play a key role in developing stem cell based regenerative medical technologies.
