Preparation of Sr2Na0.9K0.1Nb5O15 textured ceramics and study on the texture mechanism

  The well-developed acicular SKN templates were prepared when using SrNb2O6-Nb2O5-KCl system by molten salt synthesis (MSS) method.Then Sr2Na0.9K0.1Nb5O15 (SKNN) ceramics were reactively sintered from SrNb2O6,NaNbO3 matrix powders and SKN templates by Reactive Templated Grain Growth (RTGG) technique method and tape casting technique.CuO (1 wt%) was used as sintering additive.SKN templates were aligned in matrix powders of SrNb2O6 and NaNbO3 via tape casting and sintered at higher temperatures to obtain texture morphology.The effects of sintering temperature and holding time on the phase formation,densification behavior,microstructure evolution development and electrical properties were investigated.The morphological texture development in the c axis was improved with increasing the sintering temperature and prolonging the holding time as evidenced by the XRD patterns and SEM results.A texture fraction of 0.86 could be achieved when carefully controlling the processing conditions.The growth of texture SKNN ceramics was leaded by the primary aligned acicular SKN templates and further driven by the existence of some liquid phase.The structure evolution was explained by the liquid-phase-assisted growth mechanism,in which the whole process could be divided into 3 steps according to priority: (1) the phase formation stage,(2) the densification stage,and (3) the texture development stage.At the later stage of the phase formation,the interdiffusion of ions occurs between SNN particles and acicular SKN templates due to the chemical gradient.The liquid phase of CuO additive can also accelerate the interdiffusion of ions.The stable acicular shape of SKN templates provide the structural framework for the anisometric SKNN grains that can serve as secondary templates.So that the formation of the texture microstructure in c-direction continues on the secondary SKNN templates by epitaxy after densification.The texture development is further driven by the higher temperature and the existence of liquid phase CuO as the grain growth rapid along [001] is fastest.The textured ceramics with texture fraction of 0.86 exhibited anisotropic properties with the highest electrical properties obtained in the c-axis direction: εr = 2212,εm = 4869,Pr = 15.92 μC cm-2and d33 = 82 pC N-1.In addition,these properties were superior to those of randomly oriented SKNN ceramics with the similar composition.
