Nurses are confronted with many stressors which may not present in other occupations,commitment to nursing profession becomes increasingly important research topic since the individuals are unable to depend on a single organization for their entire career path because of mergers,downsizing,layoffs and insecurity.In this study,the main objective is to investigate the relationship between nursesjob stress and career commitment under the moderating effect of supervisory support.The previous studies showed that nurses work stress has an influence on nursescareer commitment but less studies showed the role of supervisory support as a moderating factor on this relationship and in order to examine this relationship we used a self-administered questionnaire consisted of three parts,the first part included the demographic questions,the second included the instruments which measure the job stress,career commitment and the supervisor support,and the last part included two questions asking about the perceived factors of job stress and career commitment,the total sample size was (271) nurses,the questionniare was translated into Arabic and after the pilot study it was distributed on (251) nurses in different units and wards at two public hospitals,RAFIDIA Public Hospital and AL-WATANI Public Hospital,in the north of West-bank.Validity and reliabilty were done, Statistical analysis of the data was conducted including t-test,analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Pearson Correlations regression analysis was also performed.The main findings of the study revealed that there is a negative correlational relationship between job stress and career commitment as well with supervisory support and a positive correlational relationship between career commitment and supervisory support.Regression findings were presented.As for the third part;the greatest perceived source of stress appears to be workload related to nursing shortage and the greatest percieved factor which decrease career commitment appears to be the job stress itself.The findings were discussed and recommendations for further research were also addressed.
