Yan Fu has made great contributions to the dissemination of logic in China.His translation,Ming Xue Qian Shuo,has exerted a profound influence on the development of modern logic and other related disciplines.However,the existing researches scatter sporadically in the studies on Yan Fu or the development of Chinese logic,thus specific researches shall be raised in translation studies.From the perspective of three-dimensional transformations in Eco-transtology,this thesis analyzes the translation methods in Ming,which is helpful to better understand Yan Fus translation purposes,thus further exploring the translation value of Ming. First of all,Yan Fu makes adaptation and selection in Ming on the linguistic dimension.The language style of Ming is classical and elegant,which is manifested in the translators imitation of pre-Qin diction,adoption of logical terms from Chinese classics and utilization of thetorical skills.Those translation methods show Yan Fus pursuit of ancient Chinese and effort of making the translation more acceptable. Secondly,Yan Fu makes adaptation and selection in Ming on the cultural dimension,which displays his focus on cultural elements in translation.In the translation,he tries to tap and develop excellent elements of traditional Chinese culture,but criticizes its dross.Whats more,it is noteworthy that by replacing and adding examples,Yan Fu successfully exchanges Chinese and Western cultures. Lastly,Yan Fu makes adaptation and selection in Ming on the communicative dimension.Through detailed comparison of Ming and the original text,it is found that the translation better conveys the translators communicative intention.Yan Fu chooses to transliterate proper nouns and supplement background information,thus transmitting Western logical knowledge.And his reflections on Chinese education and social phenomena attract readersattention on these issues. It is helpful to unveil the important role of traditional Chinese language and culture in Yan Fus translation from these three-dimensional transformations,so as to further research Yan Fus translation methods and purposes.
