The use of computer technology, specifically multimedia and the Internet, for language learning and teaching has expanded in recent years. More and more studies related to CALL have been reported. However, most of them have focused on students, on how technology affects them and their attitudes, few has been done from the point of view of the teacher, and even fewer in a Chinese context.The objectives of the present study are to investigate: (1) participants’ current practice of CALL, (2) their attitudes toward computer technology and CALL, (3) the most significant factor that influences subjects’ decision to practice CALL and (4) participants’ perceived training needs.The subjects were 129 English teachers, from 3 schools, two universities and one college in Hangzhou, China. The data are collected through questionnaires and follow-up interviews.The findings reveal that university and college English teachers surveyed do not use computer technology to its full potential though they generally hold positive attitudes toward computers and CALL. The most influential factor affecting teachers’ decision to practice CALL is administrative support, particularly in terms of time, facilities as well as training.Recommendations for university and college authorities, schools of foreign languages and course designers are proposed accordingly.
