Primitive neuroectodermal tumors(PNETs),derivedfrom the primitive neural crest,are highly malignantand mainly exist in the central nervous system(CNS),chest wall,lower extremities,trunk,kidney,and orbit butrarely in the spine.Though multidisciplinary treatmentshave been well established as the standard therapy forintracranial PNETs,little is known about the optimaltreatment strategy and therapeutic results for intraspinalPNETs.The following report illustrates the operative andnon-operative management of an extradural PNET at thelevel of L5 in a young girl.
Primitive neuroectodermal tumors (PNETs), derivedfrom the primitive neural crest, are highly malignant and mainly exist in the central nervous system (CNS), chest wall, lower extremities, trunk, kidney, and orbit butrarely in the spine.Though multidisciplinary treatmentshave been well established as the standard therapy for intracranial PNETs, little is known about the optimal treatment strategy and therapeutic results for intraspinal PNETs.
