鸡血石产于浙江省昌化县深山中,属叶腊石,石质可分为透明和不透明二类,颜色可分红、黄、白、紫、天蓝、豆青多种,其中红色中的纯鸡血红为最佳,白色间红点次之,红白黑三色相间则更次之。1972年9月当周恩来总理以国礼馈赠来访的日本首相田中角荣一对“红云阁”对章后,当即在日本掀起了一股鸡血石收藏热,因为在世界上所有红色宝石中鸡血石为中国独有,而用鸡血石制作的印章具有东方特有的文化魅力,被各国收藏家誉为具有“国际级身价”,这股收藏热海外至今还没有降温。
