镇安县城关公社县河大队科学实验小组为了解决红薯“下蛋”用种量大和母薯膨大及不下蛋等问题,参考安徽省的经验,于一九七一年进行了红薯切块直播小型试验。种薯切块分四种处理:1.横切两段;2.纵切两半;3.纵切四块;4.纵横切四块。将选好的种薯用薄刀切后,随即用生石灰涂抹消毒。四月二十五日下种(较一般红薯下蛋迟种约十五天),试验总面积660平方尺,栽培管理与一般红薯下蛋相同,十月十日收获。试验结果表明,纵切四块效果最好,下蛋率为97%,单株平均产量2.67市斤。纵横切四块效果最差,下蛋率仅78%,单株平均产量为1.46斤。其余两种处理居中,下蛋率各为90
