清明是农历二十四节气之一。2012年的清明节是4月4日。中国汉族传统的清明节大约始于周代，距今已有二千五百多年的历史。2006年5月20日，该民俗节日经国务院批准列入第一批国家级非物质文化遗产名录。
The Qingming Festival is one of the 24 seasonal division points in China, falling on April 4-6 each year. The Qingming Festival sees a combination of sadness and happiness. 清明是我国的二十四节气之一，一般每年的4月4日至6日的某一天是清明节。这个节日中既有扫墓的悲酸泪，又有踏青游玩的欢笑声。
On each Qingming Festival, all cemeteries are crowded with people who came to sweep tombs and offer sacrifices. Traffic on the way to the cemeteries becomes extremely jammed. The customs have been greatly simplified today. After slightly sweeping the tombs, people offer food, flowers and favorites of the dead, then burn incense and paper money and bow before the memorial tablet. And some add mud to the cemetery. 每年清明节人们都会来到墓地扫墓、祭祀。清明期间交通十分拥挤。如今扫墓的习俗已经简化了，人们简单打扫墓地，把带来的食物、鲜花以及死者生前最喜欢的东西放在墓地，然后将纸钱焚化，在碑前磕头，有的还为坟墓培上新土。
The Qingming Festival is a time when the sun shines brightly, the trees and grass become green and nature is again lively. Since ancient times, people have followed the custom of spring outings. People love to fly kites during the Qingming Festival not only during the day, but also at night. A string of little lanterns tied onto the kite or the thread look like shining stars, and therefore, are called “god’s lanterns”. 清明节是艳阳高照的时节，树木和草都变绿了，一切生机盎然。自古以来，人们都有在清明节春游的传统。人们在清明节期间不仅白天放风筝，夜间也放。夜里在风筝下或拉线上挂上一串串彩色的小灯笼，象闪烁的明星，因此被称为“神灯”。
