华盛顿脐橙是当前国内外重点栽培的柑桔良种之一。由于它果实无核,果色橙红鲜艳,果皮细致、光滑,肉质脆嫩化渣,风味浓甜带香,深受国内外市场欢迎。美中不足的是其产量低,所以又影响了它的大量发展。但是,华脐自1968年引入我区后,生长结果表现好,品质优良,高产稳产。1968年3月中国农科院柑桔研究所给我区一批区域化苗木,其中有枳砧华脐10株。当时由于苗木在途中运输时间长达半月以上,栽后仅成活6株。1977年11月调查,这6株十年生华脐,平均株高2.3米,干粗21.9厘米,冠幅2.4×2.5米。这是在管理水平相对粗放的情况下生长的。特别是1972年前,由于林彪、“四人帮”的严重干扰,每年平均施不上一次肥,整形修剪、治虫几乎没有搞。1974年4月调查平均株高只有1.3米,冠幅1.7米左右。近几年
