In the near future, titanium may replace steel and become the most widely used metal after copper, iron and aluminum. Titanium is a white metal with excellent properties such as small specific gravity, high strength, and corrosion resistance. Titanium alloys maintain their properties at -100°C to 540°C. This excellent resistance to cold and heat is beyond the reach of other metal materials. At present, about 70% of titanium production is used to manufacture modern weapons such as aircrafts, rockets, missiles, tanks, and submarines. Because the supersonic jet aircraft’s aluminum alloy can only withstand a certain temperature, when the flying speed is greater than 2 to 3 times the speed of sound, it is incompetent.
