The two terms “kingship” and “overbearing” are often used as diametrically opposed narratives in today’s language habits. However, if we examine carefully the history of these two terms, we find that in addition to Mencius, In the Confucian tradition, neither Confucius nor Xunzi lifted the “Wang” and the “Ba” altogether. On the contrary, although Xunzi also speaks of the kingly way, he usually only regards it as the statement of the ideal world, and hegemony probably is the state of kingship in reality. This article attempts to extend such concept to the consideration of the cross-Strait relations. I hope that by using the wisdom of the ancients, we can provide some references when we solve the cross-Strait issues.
