Most children diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) are expected to have a long-term disease-free survival, but infants younger than 1 year have a poor prognosis for ALL. It has been proposed that this type of leukemia cell is not derived from lymphocytes, but rather originated stem cells, myeloid or megakaryocytic progenitor cells. Another hypothesis is that these leukemia cell lineages are originated from the early stage of B cell differentiation, and they are said to originate from multiple cell lines. Therefore, the authors used monoclonal antibody technology to detect the expression of cells at different stages of differentiation.
